Two one-hour multiple-choice papers in English (reading comprehension and language) and Mathematics (arithmetic, problem-solving, reasoning). Marked electronically.

2Stage 2

Two one-hour written papers in English and Mathematics (non-multiple-choice). By invitation only — candidates who scored highly in Stage 1.

  • Uses bespoke tests created in partnership with Quest Assessments (not GL or CEM)
  • Final score weighted 50% English, 50% Maths across both stages
  • Stage 2 Maths weighting: Stage 1 (40%) and Stage 2 (60%)
  • Up to 10% of places allocated for sport and music aptitude (5% each)
  • Registration typically opens June and closes early September
